Ringworm
Ringworm is due to a fungal infection of the superficial layer of the skin. Fungi penetrate and begin to proliferate with the skin causing the characteristic expanding, red scaly, ring-shaped rash. The fungus usually is contracted from other people or from animals. Usually topical antifungal treatments will suffice, but a laboratory test should be done first by a dermatologist to determine the presence of fungus prior to initiation of therapy.
