Restylane and Restylane Lyft
Restylane and Restylane Lyft are hylauronic acid containing dermal fillers that replace lost volume to help restore youthful contours and smooth away wrinkles and folds of the lower face and under the eyes.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring carbohydrate found in human joints and skin that binds water, thus plumping and providing support to facial lines and folds.  While Restylane and Restylane Lyft both contain hyaluronic acid gel, Restylane Lyft contains larger gel particles and is a thicker more robust formulation intended for deeper lines and folds.  Depending on the person, results may last from 6 to 12 months, about twice as long as older collagen based fillers that are now rarely used.  Studies have shown that, with repeat injections over time, there is some stimulation of the patient's own collagen production so that results may last longer with each subsequent injection.  These products are most often used for lip augmentation, nasolabial folds (the smile lines between the side of the nose and the corner of the mouth) and for adding volume to the lower face (called the "injectable thread lift"), which can create a lifting effect.  New forms of Restylane and Restylane Lyft contain lidocaine to decrease the discomfort of injection.  To further lessen discomfort, nerve blocks or a topical numbing cream can be used.  There is usually 2-3 days of downtime, depending on the patient, with possible redness, swelling, and bruising, which can be covered with makeup.  For more information on Restylane and Restylane Lyft, visit www.restylaneusa.com
