Pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB)
Pseudofolliculitis barbae is a condition also known as "razor bumps", "shaving bumps" or "ingrown hairs". This condition is a particular nuisance to African-Americans or those individuals with thick, curly beard hair. The cause is that curly hairs, when shaved close to the surface, regrow and penetrate the skin, causing an inflammatory reaction that appears similar to acne.  Treatments for PFB include the use of special razors that do not shave the hair close, topical and oral prescription medications, cortisone injections, and laser hair removal.
