Moles (nevi)
Moles, known medically are nevi, are collections of melanocytes, the pigment producing cells present in the skin.  Moles are caused by a combination of past sun exposure and genetics. Moles may be flat or raised, but they should be one uniform color and fairly round.   All moles should be periodically evaluated by the patient for any increase in size or shape because some moles may develop melanoma.  Any change should be brought to our attention immediately.  Moles that are growing, changing, or itching may be biopsied to rule out melanoma skin cancer.
