Melasma
Melasma, the "mask of pregnancy", is a sharply demarcated darkening of the face, especially over the cheeks, forehead and upper lip. It can be associated not only with pregnancy, but also with birth control pills as well as past and current sun exposure. Many safe, effective treatments from fading creams, to chemical peels and lasers exist for evening skin tone. The foundation of treatment is sun protection including the daily use of a high SPF sunscreen containing the physical blockers zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. While some treatments are not recommended in pregnant or breast feeding women, there are some all natural lighteners that can be used, so don't delay treatment.
