Compound Nevus
A compound nevus is a benign (non-cancerous) mole that is usually raised and light tan to dark brown in color.  They are harmless but are sometimes cosmetically bothersome or become irritated due to their location on the body.  Sometimes these moles are biopsied to rule out the possibility of melanoma skin cancer, especially if the mole is new or has changed in size or shape.
