Titan
Wondering what to do about loose and sagging skin? The Titan is an ideal solution for tightening the skin on your face, abdomen, arms, and more without surgery, downtime, or injections. This FDA approved treatment uses light energy to heat the deep dermis of your skin, causing stimulation and contraction of collagen and tightening of the skin. Titan utilizes a safe, infrared spectrum of light that is delivered to the dermis well below the outer skin surface. There is minimal downtime, no external injury to the skin, and no external wounds that need care. A person can return to work right after the treatment is finished.

The Titan procedure is a great option for many cosmetic patients who are not necessarily 'ready' for cosmetic surgery or do not want to undergo an invasive procedure. Some people want to delay any cosmetic surgical intervention for as long as possible.

How does the Titan Laser work?
The Titan laser works by heating water that is within the layers of the deeper skin. The elevation of the skin's temperature is only to a certain degree that is favorable for collagen contraction. This heat causes immediate collagen contraction within the dermis of the skin. During the procedure, the skin's outermost surface (epidermis) is protected through continuous cooling with the Titan handpiece. So Titan works on the deeper layers while leaving the more superficial layers of the skin alone.

The results of the procedure are not complete immediately after the procedure because over time, new collagen growth results in further tightening and the development of a more youthful complexion with fewer lines, folds and laxity of the skin.

What areas respond best to the Titan Laser procedure?
Patients have been successfully treated on many areas on the body where skin is lax. Loose skin on the abdomen, back of the upper arm, along the jaw line and under the chin have responded particularly well to the procedure. The face is the most commonly treated cosmetic area, especially for improvement of the jaw line and neck laxity. However, there is a limit to how much the Titan will correct. Severely aged skin with extreme wrinkling would not be considered a candidates for the Titan laser procedure, and plastic surgery may be the only treatment option.

Who can be treated with the Titan Laser?

Since the Titan cosmetic procedure heats tissue under the skin's surface while leaving the epidermis intact, patients of any skin type can be treated. Men and women of the 30-60 age group have been most successfully treated. The age is not the most important factor to determine who can be treated with Titan. It is the quality of the skin and the degree of skin laxity that are the most important when assessing the candidacy for a Titan laser lift.

Realistic expectations are important to maintain. People with mildly loose skin and subtle jowls and neck laxity respond the best to the Titan laser lift. Patients with extreme laxity or more demanding expectations are still better served by traditional means of plastic surgery and facelifting. Patients who have a great deal of fatty tissue cannot expect to have the skin tighten in the neck or the back of the arms. Improvements in the stomach area are also very exciting but must be tempered with the realization that stretch marks are extremely difficult to treat.

How many treatments will I need with the Titan Laser procedure?
One to three cosmetic treatments has produced noticeable results for many patients. Our staff will advise you on the number and frequency of treatments recommended for optimal results.

What happens after treatment with the Titan Laser procedure? Are there any side effects with the Titan Laser procedure?
Immediately following the cosmetic treatment, you may notice some redness and mild swelling in treated area. Both should dissipate within a few hours. Please visit Manhattan Beach Dermatology for complete information on the benefits and risks of treatment.

When will the results with the Titan Laser procedure be noticeable?
Some cosmetic patients with minimal degrees of laxity in the face and neck will see results immediately. However, for most cosmetic patients with more laxity, the results are gradual. Collagen production takes time so a person can expect to see improvements over a three to six month period as new collagen is formed and the skin tightens.

What do treatments feel like with the Titan Laser procedure?
The Titan procedure is uncomfortable and it is recommended that a person take Tylenol prior to the procedure. Topical numbing cream will be applied for up to one hour prior to the procedure. With each Titan pulse, you will feel a brief heating sensation. The Titan's laser light is adjustable and during the first few pulses of light, the laser is adjusted to an energy level that is well tolerated. Some people do not require any premedication and tolerate the laser at its highest settings.
