Pearl Laser
The Pearl Laser procedure is essentially a "laser skin peel" that removes the entire outer sun-damaged layer of skin, which is then replaced with new healthy skin by the body's natural healing process. Simultaneously, the Pearl heats up the deeper layers of the skin, stimulating new collagen production, filling out and decreasing fine lines and wrinkles. New collagen growth continues for 4 to 6 weeks post-treatment. The combination of a new skin surface with increased collagen in the dermis results in a healthier, more youthful appearance.

Here is how it works: a portion of the epidermis (skin surface) is gently removed and a natural protective dressing is formed on the skin's surface. Most patients feel a series of brief pinches during the treatment, which takes about an hour. After 4-5 days, the protective dressing peels off revealing new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.
Patients of any age with sun damage, uneven skin texture, and fine lines and wrinkles can benefit from Pearl treatments. The Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin and uneven texture without the extensive wound care and lengthy downtime required with traditional Erbium and CO2 laser procedures.

How does the Pearl treatment work?
During the procedure, the top layer of skin is treated with pulses of light in a pre-selected pattern. The laser simultaneously sends heat to the deeper layers of skin to provide longer-term collagen remodeling benefits. A natural protective dressing forms on the skin to minimize downtime during the restorative process. On day 4 or 5, this natural dressing will peel or slough off, leaving new, healthy, vibrant skin underneath.

How does a Pearl treatment feel?
The Pearl treatment feels like a series of brief pinches. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 representing significant pain, most patients report the treatment feeling like a 2 or 3.

When will I see results? How soon can I wear make-up after a Pearl treatment?
Results are noticeable by day 4 or 5 when the superficial tissue has peeled off, leaving fresh, new, healthy skin underneath. Make-up, moisturizer, and sunscreen may be applied at this time.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after a Pearl treatment?
After treatment, your skin will look and feel mildly sunburned. You will apply ointment on the skin for 4-5 days. Since you cannot wear sunscreen during this time, you will need to wear protective clothing and limit sun exposure for several days after the treatment.

How many treatments are recommended?
Some patients may require two treatments spaced approximately one month apart to achieve the desired results. Other patients may need only one treatment.

Can the Pearl be part of a combination therapy treatment?
Yes, patients may choose to have a Pearl treatment combined with other procedures such as Laser Genesis and/or Titan, as well as fillers or Botox. Staff at Manhattan Beach Dermatology will discuss additional procedures as well as a home skin care regimen.

How does the Pearl compare to other laser treatments?
The Pearl offers the most effective treatment to address fine lines, uneven texture and discoloration without the extensive wound care and lengthy downtime required with certain Erbium and CO2 laser procedures. Compared to today's fractionated technologies, Pearl offers noticeable results in just one treatment versus 4-6 fractionated treatments.

Who is a candidate for a Pearl treatment?
Patients with light to medium skin tones and mild to moderate sun damage are the ideal candidates.
